Looking your best in photos… it’s an ever-increasing demand, isn’t it? With the advent of social media, pictures of you pop up everywhere. And whether you’re a fan of the infamous ‘selfie’, or not, I’m sure at least everyone knows one of those randomly annoying people who gets their camera out at every opportunity and snaps away like there’s no tomorrow. These people like to take ‘action shots’ at social events, to capture you unaware (grrr). So looking your best in photos is something you’ve probably thought about on more than one occasion.
Here’s some tips that will help you show your ‘best side’ in photos, and hopefully, help you to avoid having to use that dreaded ‘detag’ button…
1. Smile through the eyes
‘The eyes are the window to the soul’ is a famous quote, and it is very true. Cultivate ‘smiley eyes’- eyes that say ‘I’m enjoying life’ and you will naturally look great in a photo. The camera weirdly picks up your thoughts, so think confidently whilst being snapped and you will look great!
2. Use lighting
Lighting is important when taking a good photograph. Harsh lighting can make you look very different and perhaps not as good as you usually do! Make sure you are using the right lens for your skintone, so you don’t look overly orange or pasty.
3. Check yourself
Food in your teeth? Skirt up your bum? Hair out of place? If you have well meaning friends in the presence of your snapping session, I’m sure they will be gracious enough to tell you.
But if not, make sure you carry a mirror or quickly check your reflection on your camera’s phone to make sure you’re not committing any cardinal photo sins.
4. Be in the moment
Despite these tips telling you how to be conscious of how you look in photos, the irony is that if you lose consciousness of the way you look you will look a million times better in any photograph! So relax, and focus more on what’s around you rather than the fact you’re being snapped.
